In Champagne - Damien Wilmet in Reims

Located near the old market place (will the restoration ever end?) in a beautiful light butcher house, you'll find this elegant and sparkling bar, bistro and wine shop. Well carpentered wooden tables. An appropriate number of Champagnes on the glass. An unpretentious lunch kitchen serves exactly what you need. Everything is here. Just relax, sit down, and let it come to you. And hope that you have not planned any visites de cave within the short future.

Way south... basque country side: Kokotxa

If you happen to move southwards, you will find the regional food and kitchens that France is really all about. If you happen to go even further down south, if you'll cross the Spanish border, you might happen to find yourself in what could easily be coined as one of the cities in the world where you eat the best. This is San Sebastian, or Donastia in Basque. If you drop by Kokotxa, near the Northen church and the old habor, you are likely to be in one of the best restaurants in the world. The food is sharp, the focus is on the sea just a few hundred meters away... you'll get perfectly cooked octopussy, white tuna, prominent fish as well outsiders brought to fame. The kitchen is elegant, innovative and still you have the feeling that is is most of all just local food. With a rich and excellent selection of wines. For all tastes. With cool, nice and knowledgable people around you can ask for nothing more. This is what you should be looking for.

Outskirts of Paris - Giverny

If ever the nice weather leads you outside Paris, Giverny offers a range of different stuff, among others the Restaurant Ancien Hotel Baudy. Starting out, perhaps, with a calm afternoon drink while the tourist busses depart, and then staying around for dinner just a few houses away from the gardens of Monet is amazing. This house emerged as an impressionist centre hosting artists and painters in the 19th century, hence the label hotel.
Today, it still holds a magic ambiance, when dusks takes over as the cicadas sing. A very decent boeuf and a warm staff.
